Classification

farrah_abraham_teen_mom_us_cover.jpg

The main purpose of this entire Wiki is to classify the surveillance in the reality television show 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom. First i will help you to understand the difference between a reality television show and a sitcom television show. therefore in a reality television show it shows the life of individuals and how they tend to embarrass themselves as they open up their private life for the public to see, where as they turn themselves into characters for entertainment purposes for the audience. However a sitcom television show is when an author takes the time to make up characters and put them into funny situations based upon how they choose to entertain people. With that being said they are both kind of the same in one way and that is because they both are used to create necessary drama to attract an audience.16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom surveillance the lives of four teen moms and how there life will be before and after giving birth. however it tends to go downhill after the teen moms gets older because they're so caught up in the fame that the show has created for them, they forgot the purpose of the examples that they were suppose to be setting and in my opinion that when they start looking shameless by getting locked up, caught with drugs, condoning unprotected sex, and domestic violence to their significant other because of anger that is build up from jealousy.
Mass Media is defined as a means of open statement reaching a large audience in a short period of time. Whereas the reality television show teen mom and 16 & pregnant is put on the air to show and illustrate how getting pregnant and caring for a child changes your life. This show is suppose to give other young teens an idea of what to do just in case they ever find themselves pregnant. The show is suppose to school you with knowledge and help you understand all of the choices you have in case you ever find yourself in this position.Reality TV makes the l private opinions, behavior, and connections of the characters the one and only focus for the audience attention.

Do you feel like the reality television show 16&Pregnant and Teen Mom have a Positive or Negative impact on our young society today, and how do you feel it portrays young mothers today?

So What
One growing epidemic in the United States is teen pregnancy. A lot of young girls are becoming pregnant quick all over the world, not just unintentionally but with most of them being premeditated. For instance with the Reality television show “16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom" it's giving the girls the right to think it’s okay to have premarital sex and become pregnant with a child. To me and others it is in a way condoning teen pregnancy. The show is about catching, and filming the lifestyle of pregnant teens showing how hard it is to have a baby at a young age. It’s supposed to illustrate the behavior and activity of the young mother during pregnancy, But it’s doing the opposite. Whether its young teen girls or even young teen boys, This show is suppose to show kids the trials and tribulations, and sacrifices that will have to be made along with how hard life will be after giving birth at a young age.
I feel that this is interesting to discuss because there are a lot of options out there for those that might find their self in this position. It’s not that much out there being displayed or being done to help educate young girls on how much their life would change during the event of pregnancy. I'm so strong on this topic because my sister found herself in this position at the age of 19. My family and I don't believe in abortion because it’s never an option to kill a growing seed, she made a decision that she was comfortable with but was not giving all the support that she thought she would have or needed. She had my parents and family even though they were slightly upset and disappointed that she was having unprotected sex, she felt as if she didn't have anyone to talk to because no one understood if they weren't going through the same situation at the time. She lost friends that she thought would be there for her through it all. The show is displaying false advertising. Do you feel like the reality television show 16&Pregnant and Teen Mom have a Positive or Negative impact on our young society today, and how does it portray young mothers today? This show to me has a negative impact on our young society today, this show condones domestic violence, unprotected sex, stealing, and drugs so therefore it’s negative.

Positive & Negative Impacts

With my primary resources I realized after reading over all the comments from the people that where parents and non parents I came to the conclusion that pregnant mothers felt that the show was positive and not so bad, Mothers with 2 or more children felt that the show was negative and not so good, and Non mothers/fathers felt that the show was entertaining and loves it doesn't care whether it’s positive or negative they want to continue to get good laughs every Monday.
Negative
Domestic Violence- Amber was on season 1 of teen mom and she physically abused her boyfriend Garry all during the show by pushing on him, slapping him and most importantly punching him in the face while on camera which lead her to do jail time because charges where pressed by MTV. Also Kailyn physically pushed and punched her sons father Joe.
Unprotected Sex -3 of the teen moms on season two found themselves in the same or even a scariest position such as being pregnant again or even worst an STD. Leah season two was pregnant again and ended up having a miscarriage losing her baby. Chelsea had unprotected sex with her daughters father Adam and thought she was pregnant again, and also Katelyn had unprotected sex with Joe again and thought that she had a disease afterwards.
Stealing (THEFT)- Janelle stole her mom’s credit card and used it for her and her EX con boyfriend Kefir who stays in and out of jail so that they can have food and money to survive. Also Chelsea was caught stealing out of the store while her baby girl was with her and she was also arrested.
Drugs -Teen moms Amber, Janelle, and Chelsea were all caught with using drugs during the show Janelle is on probation but still continues to smoke weed which got her jail time because she failed her drug test. Chelsea was caught stealing at the store and while being searches weed was found on her and she was arrested. Also amber tried to overdose herself because she was stressed out with a lot of things and she was also taking drugs and drinking liquor.
Positive

A positive decision that was made during season one of teen mom and 16 & pregnant was when Teen mother Catelynn and her boyfriend Tyler decided to give there baby girl up for adoption, because neither one of them had jobs and were able to care for the baby. Instead of wanting to gove the baby a bad life they choose two great adoption parents to take the baby and raise her so that they both can grown up a little more finish school and become adults. I felt that it was a smart decision because they actually thought it threw and thought about the child and for once not there self.

* Lets you see that being a mother isn't easy but also have its rewarding moments.
* Shows you on the show how to reach out and get help , depending on certain situations
* Shows you that you can also be a good mother without having both parents for example without the father being around or any support from the father.
* Good and bad the shows shows that after giving birth that its not all smiles and giggles when its really time to get serious and put in work.
* It shows that although having and raising kids is a wonderful experience, if you are not at the proper level of maturity and stability it can be very challenging and overwhelming.
*Misleading sends a wring message by making females think by having a baby they will become famous be on television and make money for it, but most importantly it depends on the mindset of the person watching the show.
*It has been proven to have lowered the birthrate in the United States.
*It shows you the things teens loose or give up once they become a parent; along with the cost of raising a child as a young mother.
*Teen Mom shows you just how hard it is to raise a baby as a teen mom, by letting you see what goes on in their lives and the struggles they deal with everyday.

In my research I broke down the negative and positive impacts that the show may have and explained why I feel that it is so. With that being said ill start with the negative.
